Many years ago, my French friend’s boyfriend Jean Christophe used to have a phobia of the metro in Paris. I was so struck by this notion and then coined the phrase ‘métrophobique’ as I imagined all the other people who may be in that position of fear. I then wrote the composition, and what happened next was miraculous. After hearing the composition, Jean Christophe amazingly was cured and healed and was able to go on the métro again in Paris no problem!! I haven’t performed this many times in public, but when I did in Zaragoza in Spain, a lovely couple who admired my work approached me and very kindly invited me to an extremely expensive restaurant. It was so very kind, but I did wander at the time, why all this generosity, and then all was revealed. The ladies husband had a fear of flying and after hearing my story of Métrophobique she truly believed I was a healer and actually wanted me to write a new work for her husband! I still believe in the power, magic and healing qualities of music and equally the power of your own mind and how you can overcome certain obstacles that we all face every now and then in life.
